1884

Pieter Bruggeman starts his own business “De Noordpool” (The North Pole) in the Nieuwe Saspoortstraat in Ghent. He produces spirits and imports wine.
 

1941

Building of a distillery along the Ghent-Terneuzen canal.
 

1949

Louis De Schepper (Pieter Bruggeman's son in law) starts producing baker's yeast under the name of “NV Gist- en Spiritusfabrieken Bruggeman” (Bruggeman Yeast and Spirits Factories).
 

1956

Louis De Schepper dies. His wife, Mrs Anaïs Bruggeman, and his two sons, André and Joseph De Schepper, take over the management of the company.
 

1981

Development of dry yeast which is exported all around the world. In the 20 years to follow, the dry yeast department will be extended several times.
 

1988

The “Gist en Spiritusfabrieken Bruggeman” is subdivided in “NV Etn. Pieter Bruggeman”, the alcohol division, managed by Mr Joseph De Schepper and “NV Algist Bruggeman”, the yeast department, managed by Mr André De Schepper.
 

1989

Algist Bruggeman stops alcohol production and produces yeast only from that time onwards.
 

1993

Important environmental investment for the condensation of effluents and valorization of side products. Extension in 1996.
 

1997

Algist Bruggeman obtains the ISO 9002-certificate.
 

1999

New extension of the production capacity, development of special yeast for the British market.
 

2003

Building of a new packing hall for fresh yeast.
 

2004

Algist Bruggeman obtains the ISO 9001:2000 and BRC-certificates.
Take over of the UK company DCL Yeast Ltd.
 

2009Development and launching of Bruggeman+, the new standard for block yeast.
Take over of the German company Asmussen GmbH.
 
 Currently Further growth in fresh yeast and yeast specialities.
